Mr. Baron Mikel Scicluna was the 1st Pro Wrestler that i ever met in Mid City Gym 58th Street 8th Ave. NYC, a day after WWWF event in Madison Square Garden that was held once a month on a Monday night from 8pm til 11pm which was the curfew time. =0]
I just heard about this. I posted on kayfabe memories. I thought he died today (3/21/10), but regardless: R.I.P. What a great wrestler who paved the way for other “Barons” who followed him.
I remember my dad would bring home the Philadelphia Sunday Bulletin and I would check out the TV Guide and see “Spectrum Wrestling” on Prism. Unfortunately, cable wasn’t available in our area until 1987.
I liked The Baron’s comedy spot with ref Mario Savoldi. I have never seen that spot done before.
Of course, Mario Savoldi eventually left the WWF to start the International Championship Wrestling promotion one of the most successful indies of the ’80s.
The Baron once whipped Killer Kowalski on tv channel 9 even though he “lost” as the referee “disqualified”the Baron for continuing to beat up Kowalski who was tied in the ropes. I believe this was from Washington,DC…it was a donny brook too as we might have expected. Also the 1st time I ever heard the Baron “cheered”….!
every now and then a mid-card jobber (i.e. S.D. Jones or Rodz or whoever) would win at a house show. Sometimes on special cable shows like spectrum you’d see a jobber win too. I don’t think Rodz or S.D. Jones were given the credit they deserved. Many don’t know that Rodz owns/operates his own wrestling school–and has for years. He’s turned out some of the best known wrestlers ever. Yet, he was a jobber!
If he did, it would have been in non-televised house shows. Rodz was a mid-card wrestler, much like S.D. Jones–but in the 70s and early 80s he had a 50/50 win/loss record. In fact, many don’t know it, but Rodz held TITLES. He was 1/2 of the WWC tag team champions, and he also held a national title in Canada.
are you serious? He lives in Pittsburgh, correct? I live about 3 hours north of the “burgh.” I think he retired not long after this match was filed (maybe within 2-3 years) but I am not sure.

6Pete Sanchez was getting popular in the mid to late 70s. He really was allowed to put up a good fight.

17Did Pete Sanchez ever win a match? I think he even lost when up against jobbers like Johnny Rodz.
